That master's thesis explor some the problem constituted by idioms, notably those related to their form and behavior. The authors subdivide idioms into two types: those whose meaning cannot be predicted on the basis of their constituent parts and those whose meaning can be predicted from their constituents.

The thesis concerns the flexibility idioms and question to investigate in this fleibility implies internal semantic structure, describing the complexity of the concept idiom and at explaning why we recognize these variant expression as belonging to the same category, what they really are.
Autors explor categorization with focus on prototype Theory, approach useful for understanding the function of language and idiom. Language is not only a set of syntactic and semantic rule it is also a reflection of how the human mind perceives the world. People categorize in order to make sense concepts. In order to translate these mental images into language, there must be a corelation between phonology, syntax, semantics and also conceptual structur.
example:

The idiom used in the survey:
compositional:
1.keep tabs on
2.break the ice
3.let the cat out of the bag
4.cross bridge
 Noncompositional
1.saw logs
2.shoot the breeze
3.kick the bucket

Strengness  :excess of this article has lot of explanation about caregorization of idiom in variety related to that form and behavior.
weakness:
The difficullty in finding a single and uniform definition  for idiom is related to the variant syntactic and semantic behavior of idiom.
conclusion:Similar to recognizing a physical object, the cognitive abilities of people perhaps play a part in recognizing the parts of the idiom and associating these meaning to the whole expression

Semantic

Semantic is study of meaning, the study of linguistic meaning of words. He said semantik is study of meaning morpheme. Theoritical concepts and contribitions are seen from two perspective: a. from the linguistic perspèctive (interested in the core meaning of linguistic expressions) (sense) consist of polysemy, synonymy, hyponymy, antonymy, overlap, idiomaticity, and another.  b. from the philosopher 's perspective (interested in the reference of linguistic expression and truth of sentences) . Reference : referent, ecxtention, prototype, stereotype, co- reference, anaphora, deixis. Truth conditions : analitic sentences, contradictory sentences, synthetic sentences, enteilment presupposition and another.
Polysemy : there are some words which have more a range of meaning (many meaning)
Example :ligh with meaning 1.illuminating forcre, 2. not heavy, 3.with not much luggage 3. come down fŕom flight and settle.
Synonymy: some words have the same sense.
Example: home and house.
Hyponymy: The relationship of words where a word.
Example: flower: rose, orchid, jasminè.
Antonymy: relationship between words indicates oppositeness of meaning.
Exjample: how big or how small.
Overlap: constitute meaning of the wordsinvolved have the same value.
Example: colour : purple, pink, violet.
Idiomaticity: The combinatio n of words has a different meaning frim the combination of their separate meaning.
Example: fly off the handle: wich means to lose one' temper not meaning
of the fly, off or handle. ( arti ungkapan). So many meaning in the words.
